Hot Spot Page 5

Their bodies shifted against each other with the movement of the water. It was the first time she’d felt John’s cock completely deflated while they were naked. Something naughty in her prompted her to move her knee between his legs. Then, ever so lightly, she moved her thigh up and down his shaft.

His hands flexed where they rested on her hips. “I think you’re trying to quench a hunger inside you that is just as bad as mine.”

Sammy could hear the smile in his voice. “Perhaps. Maybe I’m trying to eat my fill before the famine.” God, she didn’t mean for her voice to come out sounding so needy. She was thankful the darkness could hide her embarrassment.

John took a deep breath and released it slowly. “I went away for a reason, Sam. I was a hothead and did all the wrong things. And there was no way I was going to stand by and watch you and Pat play house. As much as I wanted you, I think I hated you a little, too.”

  “I was afraid of you.”

“I know.” He kissed Sammy briefly. “Are you afraid of me now?”

She thought about her answer, realizing she had to be honest with him. “I’m afraid of me, John. Afraid of what you make me feel. Everything is happening so fast.”

“Why don’t we head back and talk over dinner.”

Sammy was good with that. They needed to talk. She hadn’t been lying about being afraid. John made her feel too much, too fast. And when he touched her she was consumed with hunger. For twenty years he’d always been there, lurking in the back of her mind, teasing and taunting her with his sexy grin and the fire of knowledge in his eyes. His bad-boy reputation had intrigued her just as it had every other girl in high school.

As she struggled into her borrowed shorts, the hot sting of tears filled her eyes as she realized she cared a lot for John. And her biggest fear was that he was going to walk away again, now that he’d gotten what he wanted. She’d given in to him so fervently. I was as eager to get into his pants as he was to get into mine. She pulled the tank top over her head and down her body, and then turned.

John was already on his bike. Without words, she crawled on behind him. “Wrap your arms around me, honey.” He kick-started the bike, revved it up, and headed back in the direction they’d come.

Sammy rested her cheek against his shoulder and held on tight. She didn’t know how, but John found his way back and before long they were pulling up in front of his cabin.

“Why don’t you grab a shower? There’s a clean shirt in my duffel bag. I’ll be back in a few.”

Sammy slipped off the back of the bike and watched John ride away, wondering if this was how their weekend was going to end.

  Chapter 5

  “You look satisfied.”

A smile spread across Sammy’s face. She was satisfied, in more ways than one. When he’d disappeared earlier, it was to get them some food from the barbeque, and he’d returned with a plate piled high with chicken, corn on the cob, and baked beans. They’d both been hungry and dove into the food like starving teenagers, flushing it all down with ice-cold sweet tea.

“I haven’t been this satisfied in a long time.” She wasn’t just talking about the food. Would he get the double meaning? Going by his sexy grin, he did.

He pushed his chair back and got to his feet. “Let’s go have that talk.”

He sounded so solemn, and Sammy supposed it was going to be a serious discussion. One that might decide how the weekend was going to end between them. She watched him walk around the table toward her. A little shiver rolled over her scantily clad body when he stopped behind her and leaned in close enough for her to feel his warm breath against her neck. He dropped his hands on her shoulders in a firm caress.

“Let’s go someplace where we’ll be more comfortable.”

Bed? It was the first thing that popped into Sammy’s mind. Goodness, she was becoming a nympho!

She rose to her feet and turned to face him. They’d both showered before eating. She was wearing one of his T-shirts, which stopped at the tops of her thighs and covered just what it needed to. He was wearing a pair of sexy boxer briefs, which showcased his powerful thighs. His nearness caused her nipples to crest with instant awareness. John’s gaze dropped there, and then roamed lazily up to her mouth.

So sure he was going to kiss her, Sammy wet her lips. Lord, his mouth is sensual! And very talented.

“I’d love to kiss that sexy mouth of yours, but we both know it never stops there. And I want to talk first. To make sure we have no misunderstandings between us.”

He took her by the hand and Sammy let him lead her out to the small screened-in porch on the back of the cabin. It was dark there, and the temperature a little cool, but it felt good to her. She could barely make out a small round table and some chairs. A shadow in the corner revealed there was possibly a swing. John pushed her down onto one of the chairs before moving to one opposite her.

Sammy smiled. He really isn’t taking any chances. Is he afraid of me? She took a deep breath. The air was thick with the smells coming from the dying bonfire, cooked food, and the scent of wild jasmine. Muted voices surrounded them. A quick glance around the area showed a glimmer of lights in the nearby cabins, and a few dim yellow lights on some of the porches.

  “Here.”

She started at John’s voice, and then she reached for the glass he was handing her. There was a bottle on the table she hadn’t noticed before.

“Wine?” There was surprise in her tone. “I thought you were a beer man.”

“There are a lot of things you don’t know about me, Sam.” She could tell he was taking a sip. “What do you want out of our relationship?”

“I didn’t know we were in a relationship.” God, why is my voice so shaky? Because I’m afraid.

John released a deep breath. “You think this is just a weekend fling?”

God, she hoped not. Sammy didn’t know how to respond to that. She took another sip of her wine, aware that she was stalling for time.

“We’re not kids anymore. Twenty years ago I would have fucked you and walked away. I wanted you like hell, but I was wild and arrogant. If I hadn’t left when I did, I would have had you, and you being married to my brother wouldn’t have stopped me.”

Sammy knew he was speaking the truth. “I was afraid of you.”

“So you’ve said before. But you know what I think? I think you were just as afraid of yourself back then.”

  “Maybe.”

  He laughed. “Coward.”

  She’d never denied it.

“Well, I never forgot you. Never forgot what you made me feel or want. When I heard your marriage to Pat broke up, I swore I’d come back one day and see if you still felt the spark.”

“You took a chance I wouldn’t meet someone else.”

  “I kept tabs on you.”

“What?” Sammy didn’t know if she liked that or not. “How?”

“Through the family. I doubt it occurred to anyone why I asked the questions I did. I was just catching up in their eyes. When it became clear you were too involved with raising your kids, I figured to let you get that out of the way first. Besides, I was busy with JM Construction, and my own personal relationship was a mess.”

He was referring to his divorce. “Are you going to sit there and tell me that you haven’t been with anyone since your divorce?”

“Hell no, honey. I’m not a saint. I had a few one-night stands.”

God, how Sammy wished she could say the same, only because the thought of John with another woman hurt. All of her one-night stands had been with him, in her dreams. It had been strange and unexpected, when he would crop up in her dreams or thoughts. But once there, his memory had remained with her for days, followed by a kind of sadness she could never explain.

“I’ve been patient, Sam. I knew we would be together one day. When there was nothing to get in the way. No marriages, no children. We’re two grown adults free to pursue what we want.”

Sammy put her glass to her lips and swallowe
d the rest of her wine, digesting John’s words. He was right. But did she believe him? She’d held nothing back in his arms. And he’d made love to her as if he worshiped her … loved her. Would all that last beyond the weekend?

“Say it.” He leaned forward and refilled her glass.

  “What?” She picked it up.

“You’ve been too quiet. Say what’s on your mind.”

Sammy put the glass to her lips and drank it down like it was water. The liquid burned a fiery trail down her throat, and she barely held back a coughing fit. But she knew the wine would give her courage to be honest with John. She wasn't normally a drinker, but when she did drink, it made her say and do things she wouldn’t say otherwise.

“All right.” She set her glass down on the table. “I’m wondering if what we have will continue beyond this weekend. Maybe part of me can’t get past the John I knew as a teenager. The sex is great. But sex doesn’t make a relationship.”

“Is that your way of saying you don’t have feelings for me?”

Sammy thought she loved him, or was close to it, but it was too soon to admit it. She had to be sure of him. “No.” She was beginning to feel warm inside, the wine making her relaxed. “I’m not saying that at all.”

“I want you, Sammy. I want you in my bed. I want you at my breakfast table, dinner table, and everything in between. I want you in my future, lady.” His voice turned husky. “I can’t make you believe I’ll be around after this weekend. You’ll just have to trust me. Can you do that?”

Something in John’s voice told Sammy he was sincere. And God, she wanted to trust him. A life with him would fulfill a fantasy she’d been harboring for years. A combination of the wine and his nearness made her senses alert and attuned to everything about him, his masculine scent, his sensual voice, and how complete he made her feel. All of a sudden she wanted his mouth on hers.

Sammy got to her feet. “I trust you.” She went to where he was sitting and sank down on his lap.

Without giving him a chance to question her, she kissed him. It turned hard and intense within seconds. John’s hand went to the back of her head, holding her to him, and she wrapped her arms around his neck, straining into him. As their mouths moved against each other, Sammy opened hers and welcomed his tongue inside. Mutual moans filled the space around them as their kiss deepened and their caresses began to move out of bounds.

John’s hands found their way underneath her T-shirt, where he palmed and squeezed her breasts. Sammy moved her hands over his chest and down his ribcage, and then up his muscled arms to the sides of his face. She held him tenderly, tears of emotion burning behind her eyes. His caresses on her breasts turned gentle, his thumbs circling her stiff, tingling nipples.

John broke the kiss but didn’t move far from her lips. “I think it’s time we moved inside, don’t you?” His mouth moved to Sammy’s jawline.

“Why?” She squirmed against him, enjoying the power of turning his cock hard. Without panties, it would be so easy to remove it from his boxers and slip it inside her. God, my pussy is already juicing with the thought.

“There are others around.” His breathing was hard.

“So?” Sammy lifted her T-shirt and thrust her breasts into his face. He needed no encouragement in kissing and sucking her nipples into his mouth. With a soft cry she arched her body, which forced her swollen breasts out farther.

John momentarily seemed to lose control. He arched his hips off the chair, grinding his hard cock between Sammy’s legs. The material covering his dick felt good rubbing over her clit and between her pussy lips. She moaned with pleasure and rode him gently. His hands roamed down to her hips to help her.

“John!” Her clit was on fire and throbbing. “I need you inside me.” She lifted her hips and reached for him. After a second of feeling her way around, she managed to find the opening in his boxers. She pulled his cock free and guided it inside her hungry pussy.

  She shivered violently.

“Fuck, honey.” He lifted his hips to push his cock deeper inside her.

Sammy began to move, uncaring where she was. Or who might see or hear them. The pleasure was so intensely sweet and satisfying. As she rode John’s thick cock he made love to her bouncing breasts with his mouth. His deep groans added further stimulation to her sensitive flesh, increasing the pleasure between her thighs. Then his hand was there, his fingers flicking over her engorged clit.

“Oh … God!” Sammy was about to explode. “Feels so good!” She began to move faster. “Don’t stop!”

  “Not on your life, baby.”

Sammy was about to come. Her breathing picked up speed, her body grew taut, and she threw her head back when a rolling river of fire raced through her veins. As if sensing what was happening, John’s mouth locked on hers, drowning out her cries of pleasure. She convulsed wildly and would have collapsed if John hadn’t reached his own orgasm.

Just when she felt him come, she squeezed her muscles, getting a weak groan for her efforts. In spite of her own weak condition, Sammy grinned and continued to torture John until he was drained and limp against her. For a long time it seemed they remained like that, content to rest against one another while they regained control of their breathing, and their emotions.

Sometime later, John said, “Come on, baby. If we’re going to fuck the weekend away, let’s do it in a comfortable bed.”

Sammy didn’t protest when he picked her up and carried her inside. She nuzzled against his warm body, totally spent and happy. Almost ready to confess that she loved him.

  * * * *

Sammy stepped out of her shower and reached for her terry robe. Is that the doorbell? Her answer came a minute later, when someone rang the doorbell again. Slipping into her robe, she tied the sash on the way to the front door. It was early Monday morning, who could it be?

The peep hole revealed it was a deliveryman. She opened the door.

  “Delivery for Sammy O’Malley.”

“That would be me.” Sammy reached for the clipboard he was already thrusting her way, scribbled her name, and gave it back to him. Then she accepted the long white box. “Thank you.”

She was surprised to see her hands were trembling when she put the box on the counter and started to remove the satin ribbon around it. It was obviously a flower box, and inside were a dozen of the most beautiful long-stem, red roses she’d ever seen. Tucked between the thorny stems was a card.

Holding her breath while opening it, she felt tears fill her eyes when she read the contents.

Thank you for the wonderful weekend, honey. It was worth the twenty-year wait. I’ll pick you up at 7:00 tonight for dinner. Wear something sexy for our first official date, which I promise won’t be our last. I love you, Sam. John

He loves me? With a watery smile, Sammy clutched the note to her breast and stared down at the roses. He loves me. She’d already decided the night before, as she was driving away from him, that she believed him when he said he was sticking around. Picking up a rose, she smelled it. The flowers and his note confirmed it.

  He loves me.
